Lipid Panel

We should have an article about lipid panel interpretation.

A standard lipid panel measures:

  • Total Cholesterol
  • Triglycerides
  • HDL Cholesterol
  • LDL-Cholesterol (calculated)
  • Cholesterol/HDL Ratio (calculated)
  • Non-HDL Cholesterol (calculated)

These are typically measured after overnight fasting (12-14 hours).

Low LDL increases the risk of cancer and dementia, however mainstream medicine neglects this and insists that the optimal level is below 100 mg/dL. Endotoxin and stresses on the liver increase HDL. HDL is anti-inflammatory and rises in a defensive reaction. Triglycerides indicate an interference with the oxidative metabolism of sugar, however they are less problematic when saturated. The saturation of triglycerides is not typically measured. Free fatty acids should be as low as possible, and can be measured as part of a lipid panel.
